Watch face help
Jesse Hollingsworth makes watch faces for Wear OS watches such as Pixel Watch and Galaxy Watch. Each face is a watch face only: there is no phone app to install.
Install a face
From your phone
- Open the Play Store on the phone that is paired with your watch and search for Jesse Hollingsworth or the face's name.
- On the face's page, make sure your watch is the selected device (tap the device list next to the button if your phone is selected).
- Tap the price, confirm the purchase, and the face installs on your watch in a minute or two.
From your watch
- Open the Play Store on the watch and search for the face's name.
- Tap the price and confirm. You may be asked to finish the payment on your phone.
Put it on your watch
- Touch and hold your current watch face.
- Swipe to the end of the list and tap Add (the + button), then pick the face.
- You can do the same from your phone: in the Pixel Watch app or Galaxy Wearable app, open Watch faces and look under the downloaded faces.
Menu names differ a little between watch brands and software versions, but the steps are the same.
Customize colours, styles and data
- Touch and hold the watch face, then tap Customize (on some watches it is Edit or a gear icon).
- Swipe left or right to move between settings such as colour, style, motion and always-on.
- Swipe up or down, or turn the crown or bezel, to change the setting you are on.
- On the complications page, tap a highlighted spot to choose what it shows.
The phone apps (Pixel Watch app, Galaxy Wearable) have the same settings under the watch face's Customize option and are easier for long colour lists. 12- or 24-hour time follows your watch's setting.
Complications and shortcuts
A complication is a spot on the face that shows data from your watch or another app: steps, heart rate, weather, battery, your next event, sunrise and sunset, and more. Most of these faces fill every spot with something useful out of the box, and you can change each one in Customize.
- App shortcuts: many spots can also open an app you choose, like a timer or your music.
- Permissions: some data (heart rate, calendar) needs your permission. Your watch asks for it; you can change it later in the watch's settings.
- Dashes ( -- ): the data is not available yet. Weather needs location and a weather app; heart rate needs the watch worn snugly.
Battery tips
- The faces are designed to be light on battery. Animated faces move briefly (for example at each new minute) and are still in between.
- For the calmest face, set Motion to Still in Customize, where the face offers it.
- The always-on screen is true black and lights only a small part of the display. Faces with several always-on styles let you pick a lighter one.
- Complications that update often (live heart rate, seconds) use a little more power than ones that update rarely.
- Screen brightness, tilt-to-wake and always-on itself make more difference than any watch face. You can change them in the watch's Display settings.
Which watches
The faces need a watch running Wear OS 5 or newer, such as Pixel Watch or a Galaxy Watch updated to Wear OS 5. They do not work on Apple Watch, Fitbit, Garmin or older Galaxy watches that run Tizen.
These faces need a newer version:
| Watch face | Needs |
|---|---|
| Flight Level: Pilot UTC | Wear OS 5.1 or newer |
| Wristful: Your Photo Face | Wear OS 6 or newer |
To check your version, open Settings on the watch, then System › About (Pixel Watch) or About watch › Software information (Galaxy Watch), and look for the Wear OS version. Each face's Play Store listing also states what it needs.
Common questions
The Play Store says my device is not compatible
Your watch is probably on an older Wear OS version, or the selected device is your phone. Pick your watch in the device list, and check for a watch software update in the watch's Settings › System.
I bought a face but cannot find it on my watch
Open the Play Store on the watch, go to your apps, and install it from there. Then touch and hold your watch face, swipe to the end and tap Add. Purchases belong to your Google account, so the face also installs on any other watch signed in to the same account at no extra cost.
The weather is blank or out of date
Weather comes from your watch's weather service. Turn on location for the watch (and the phone it is paired with), open the watch's Weather app once, and give it a few minutes to refresh.
Heart rate shows dashes
Wear the watch snugly above the wrist bone and allow the heart rate permission if your watch asks. Your watch measures heart rate on its own schedule, so the number can take a moment to appear.
The always-on screen looks different from the normal face
That is intentional. The always-on view is a dimmed, mostly black version that saves battery. Many faces offer several always-on styles in Customize.
Is there a phone app?
No. Each face is a watch face only. You customize it on the watch or in your watch's phone app.
Does the face collect my data?
No. The faces have no code and no internet access. Everything they show comes from your watch and stays on it. See the Privacy Policy.
